Meet" for cancer survivors was organized by the Department of Radiotherapy, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University


A "Winners�?? Meet" for cancer survivors was organized by the Department of Radiotherapy, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University. The programme was attended by around 50 cancer survivors and a large number of guests. The theme of the programme was "Life After Cancer".
Chief Guest, Mrs. Sabiha Simi Shah, wife of AMU Vice Chancellor, expressed happiness on being with cancer survivors. She said that cancer should not be taken as a death certificate as it was very much treatable if patients reached cancer specialists in early stages. She congratulated all participants of the winners Meet.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Principal and CMS, JNMC said that it is his duty as CMS to provide better facilities to the patients. He said he was committed to bring positive changes in the college administration with the cooperation of faculty members and other paramedical staff.
Introductory remarks were given by Prof. Shahid Ali Siddiqui, Chairman, Department of Radiotherapy. He said that he was happy to share his decade long experience of cancer treatment. Elaborating on the existing cancer treatment facilities at JNMC, he said that apart from OPD, IPD and teletherapy services, the department has got a more advanced Brachytherapy machine which is functional since 2006. He claimed that patients were referred to JNMC from other prestigious hospitals in Delhi for Brachytherapy Treatment. Elaborating on the future plan for upgradation of the department, he said that the application for the status of a �??Tertiary Cancer Centre�?? (TCC) is already under consideration with the Government of India and once approved, the department will start providing a comprehensive cancer care.
Dr. Farrukh Anwar, a resident Doctor in the Dept. of Radiotherapy, delivered a lecture on Breast Cancer Screening. She said that every women should perform Breast Self Examination (BSE) on regular basis in order to detect any change in her breast.
Dr. Mohd. Kashif Razi, Senior Resident, gave a presentation on �??Famous Cancer Survivors: How did they emerge victorious�??. He shared the stories of Yuvraj Singh, Lisa Ray, Manisha Koirala, Anurag Basu and many other survivors and their life changing experiences.
Prof. M H Beg, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, presented the vote of thanks. Programme was conducted by Dr. Mohammad Kashif Razi.
