The Department of Anesthesiology, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University celebrated the "World Anaesthesia Day" with fervor and enthusiasm.
The day is celebrated all over the globe to commemorate the birthday of Anesthesia. Mr. WTG Morton used first successful ether anesthesia in 1846, ushering an era of painless surgery.
The Chairman, Department of Anesthesiology, Prof Shehla Haleem, highlighted the history of Mr. Morton's achievements, which translated a normal idea into practice and inspired doctors to take bold steps to deliver healthcare to the needy. She said that in the process of healthcare delivery, doctors needed to be sympathetic and humble. Prof Shahla said the Anesthesiologists are playing a commendable role in all fields of medicine. The technological advancement of the last decade, led to the transformation of simple mask or needle anesthesia into titrated, monitored, multi-lumen, target-controlled closed-loop robotic anesthesia, she added.
A questionnaire-based programme on "Safe Practice of Anesthesia" was also organized at the department, which was attended by 80 participants of different specialties. It started with the slogan "Who will win the prize". Dr. Nishat Akhtar, 3rd year postgraduate student and Dr. Hussain Amir, Assistant Professor were declared winners. The programme was supported by "Neon Laboratories".
