Mr Rajan Welukar, Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University while paying rich tributes to the great social reformer and founder of Aligarh Muslim University on his 196th birth anniversary


 "Inclusive development can be achieved only through education," said Mr Rajan Welukar, Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University while paying rich tributes to the great social reformer and founder of Aligarh Muslim University on his 196th birth anniversary. Mr. Welukar was addressing a commemorative meeting organized by the AMU Alumni Association, Mumbai Branch at Mumbai University's Alkesh Dinesh Modi Auditorium.
Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was the founder of the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh and a noted social reformer who advocated for modern education combined with oriental principles.
Mr Amin Patel, MLA, Mumbadevi lauded the efforts of Sir Syed and urged the Aligarians to take the torch of education forward. He assured his full support to any movement to promote the cause. A prominent Aligarian, Ishtiaq Ali suggested the establishment of Sir Syed Chair at the Mumbai University, which was endorsed by Mr. Patel and Mr. Welukar. They assured to discuss the proposal during their meeting with the University Grants Commission.
Mrs. Aarefa Faridoon, senior lecturer at the Rizvi College of Engineering shed light on the secular credentials of Sir Syed in particular and AMU in General.
Prof. Mohd. Tahir, Vice President of the AMU Alumni Association, Mumbai Branch and Prof. Saheb Ali, Patron of the Association warmly welcomed the guests and expressed their views on the relevance of Sir Syed in modern times. Dr Masroor Qureshi succinctly highlighted the objectives of the AMU Alumni Association Mumbai Branch and described the future plans. The vote of thanks was moved by Professor Zakir Ilahi of Saboo Siddique College of Engineering.
